Vendredi 12 mai 2023, dans le cadre d’une opération conjointe menée dans la Province de Montecristi (Nord-Ouest de la République Dominicaine), la Direction Nationale de Contrôle des Drogues (DNCD) et des membres du Ministère Public, avec le soutien de la Direction Générale des Douanes (DGA) et des organisations internationales, ont procédé à l’arrestation du Cubain Elieser Sori Rodríguez, 51 ans, un trafiquant d’armes international recherché dans le District Sud de la Floride.
Son arrestation dans la province de Montecristi, fait suite à la saisie d’un arsenal d’armes et de munition, en décembre 2021, dans le port de Haina Oriental, par les inspecteurs des douanes, la DNCD et les agences de renseignement dominicain.
Au total, 33 armes à feu ont été trouvées, dont des fusils d’assauts, des pistolets, près de 1,000 munitions diverses, 35 chargeurs pour pistolet et 21 chargeurs pour fusils d’assauts, qui étaient dissimulés dans des articles de maison dans un conteneur en provenance de Miami.
